The Samoyed Fanciers of Central Florida, Inc. (SFCF) was founded in 1994 by a small group of conformation exhibitors and breeders.

Its activities take place in the area known as Central Florida, with the majority of the members in this area. The central location has been designated as Winter Haven, in the middle of Central Florida. However, SFCF also has members from Clearwater on the West Coast, to Jacksonville and Ft. Lauderdale on the East Coast.

Our members compete in a variety of AKC events, including conformation, obedience, agility and herding. Many have obtained titles on their dogs and one member has completed the requirements to apply for his judge credentials. Another member is qualified to perform Canine Good Citizen tests. In addition, members are also involved with other registries, such as the United Kennel Club and the International Kennel Club, obtaining titles on their Samoyeds there as well.

The majority of our members are also members of the parent club, Samoyed Club of America, Inc. (SCA). Several Samoyeds have earned the SCA Working Samoyed and the Working Samoyed Excellent, based on sledding, pack hiking, herding, and therapy work. SFCF is always represented at the SCA National Specialties. One member has been on the SCA herding committee.

In the spring of 1998, SFCF held its first Fun Match and has continued to hold matches for Samoyeds during the following three years. In December 2001, SFCF held a Northern Breeds Fun Match.

The Samoyed Fanciers of Central Florida, Inc. has engaged in group activities consistent with the original purpose of the Working Samoyed breed and with the membership's altruistic concerns for the breed.

These activities include our annual spring Sammy Fun Day, held in the Ocala countryside. This provides an opportunity for fun and fellowship, along with an opportunity to participate in herding, agility and pulling events, as well as parts matches.

Other activities include participation in a variety of Christmas parades in which our Sammy sled team pulls a large 200-pound Christmas sled and even Santa Claus on occasion. Other Sams pull mini sleds while still others go into the crowd to be petted.

Club members are also involved in pet fairs and purebred dog exhibitions to promote good dog ownership and educate the public. SFCF represented the Samoyed Club of America, Inc. by hosting the Samoyed booth at the AKC/Eukanuba Classic Meet the Breeds in 2001 and 2002. Our club's efforts payed off with a fourth place ribbon for our booth in the working group in 2001 and a first place group finish in 2002.

Members are also active in their local communities, involving issues on dog laws and awareness of the restrictions attempting to be passed. Several dogs are also qualified for pet therapy with their CGC, TDI and/or Project Pup certification.

The Samoyed Fanciers of Central Florida, Inc. has always maintained a Rescue coordinator and a network throughout the state to provide for the placement of owner-surrendered and stray Samoyeds. This committee also works with the SCA National Samoyed Rescue Coordinator. In addition, SFCF assists breeders in other areas of the country with the return and/or replacement of their dogs who may come into rescue. This activity has steadily grown to a total of 25 dogs assisted in 2001.

From the clubs inception, election of officers has occurred yearly and the clubs official publication, the SAMSUN has been published quarterly. The Constitution and By-Laws were created and officially adopted by the membership in 1998. These were revised and approved by the membership in 2001, due to the growth of the club in size and in activities.

The Samoyed Fanciers of Central Florida, Inc. was officially incorporated in the State of Florida on February 15, 2001. The club has also registered with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, so that it may formally request donations and hold fundraisers for the benefit of its rescue program.
